On 2nd June 1953, Queen Elizabeth II took the official oath to become the Queen of England. It was the first major event to be broadcast by television to millions of people across the globe. Whilst thousands travelled to London to see the events live, most crowded round television screens watching in anticipation as the cameras took them down the streets of London and right into Westminster Abbey. The programme was transmitted in 44 different languages. Not only does this event mark the beginnings of a new monarchy for Great Britain, but the beginning of the technological and information revolution, which we are coming to terms with today.
